Dual Battery ???

Could someone with dual battery 6.2L or 6.7L post a pic of the drivers side battery and coolant expansion tank area????

I have 6.2L with single battery.......... I'm thinking about ordering what is apparently a coolant expansion tank (for dual battery set up) which appears to have different attachment/bracket configuration. I also plan to order the battery tray for second battery. Basically..... trying to reconfigure the front quarter of the drivers side engine bay like a dual battery (without the battery). I may want to locate other devices under the hood and this would free up some room and provide a mounting location.

I'm simply looking for some more detailed pictures of that front quarter section of the engine bay to see how everything is bolted in and configured.

Interested as well. How about a picture of a gasser? A parts list would be great! I wish I understood this option when I ordered my truck. It's the only option I regret not getting. Fortunately it should be fairly easy to add a second battery. I wouldn't wire it in parallel either. I would get an isolator.

How would that work if the truck had only 1 battery before? Does it take the charging current and manage it independently between the two batteries?

I was bummed to find out I missed this option also due to the terrible wording in the order sheet. I will follow this.

I've gotta second the terrible wording comment. I think the common industry parlance is dual-battery so the build sheet should just say that. Oh well.

Yes, it charges the spare battery after the main battery is charged. You can run accessories off of the spare battery. It also allows you to use the spare battery to start the truck if you run the main battery down. You can link them together (some do it automatically) to give you more amps when starting a very cold engine or when running high draw accessories such as a winch.

Out of curiosity, why do you feel the need for dual batteries on a gasser?

Dont have it on my Super Duty because it's a company truck but I do on my GM Big Block duallies. Really the reserve capacity if an alternator or a belt takes a dive, but also just for peace of mind when it gets really cold out.

I've ran a plow for years on my 02. Never really felt like I needed a dual battery setup. Truck never really struggled with it.

Been out all weekend..... thanks for all the responses!!

TIB: Thanks!! I had looked at that pic form 44dan44 a couple of times. I was wanting a couple of other views so I could possibly tell a little more about what would need to be done to fit that coolant expansion tank from the dual battery setup into a truck with a single battery (freeing up additional space) and possibly giving room to mount the 2nd battery tray.

I also appreciate the pic from Redrocket....... that appears to be from the 6.7L.

Although some of the plumbing is a little different....... it appears that the coolant expansion tank and the battery tray are probably the same. I may just have to order both and see what I can do.

What would possibly be helpful is to know if there are any special brackets/bolts that might need to be ordered to mount the tank and tray (that may not come with them) ..... I may just have to spend some time at the parts counter and see what we can come up with.

Have any of you 6.2 guys installed the Factory Medium - (Dual Batteries) in your trucks.

Thanks to SD crewzer & troverman for your input. You both brought up some very good points on the subject .
