This may have been shared already, but I just came across browser add-ons that fix the photobucket extortion problem. I found it on the "1973-79 Ford Dentside Domination Coalition" Facebook page. All you have to do is download this add-ons and all the lost photobucket images will reappear like magic. I did it, it's awesome!!!
I just did the Firefox add on (just a few simple clicks of the mouse and it's done) and as a test, I checked for a photo I posted in 2010 on page 20 of the "Let's see the supercabs" thread. It's there! Thanks!
It's really good that a workaround has been developed. However, we shouldn't be surprised if Photobucket develops a counter-measure in the tradition of spy-vs-spy (Mad Magazine).
My internet life began in the late 80s so I've seen many of the resources I grew to depend upon either go away entirely or change to an unacceptable (to me) business model.
Based on that experience, I try to capture and archive the video, images and text of articles, blog posts and build threads that I think will be of enduring value to me. Hard disk drive space is relatively cheap. I just purchased a couple of 4 Terrabyte drives for less than $200 each.
There are many good containers for this info that you can use. Word processors, Page layout programs, Presentation software or even eBook authoring software. Of course some of these internet sites will put up barriers to capturing this info so you'll need to develop skills in the use of screen grabbers, YouTube downloaders and so on. Spy vs spy.

yeah wont be long before they do.. i got tired of the incessant popup ads they had on the site that are over taking it.. downloaded the add-on for the browser to block it and was nice till about a month late *popup*"YOUR USING A AD-BLOCKER.....blahblahblah " now theres just more of them and are getting around the blocker again..
The most irksome part of all this is that Photobucket, unlike Getty Images, does not own these pictures/images. They were taken and are owned by us. By switching the Terms of Service (TOS) very late in the game, they have effectively appropriated assets that they do not own and now are trying to sell access to them. Some would call that theft by conversion or, more simply, stealing. Pretty audacious.
ive often thought about going in and copying them to an external drive.. then deleting them all from there... its annoying that it use to be a nice site to host from but now its just a pita to close 5-6 page covering ads just to view the site.. or other ads that redirect you to a completely different site whenever it loads the banners..
