2011 Issues?

High guys. I am in the market for either a 6.7 or the 6.2. I would obviously prefer the 6.7 but I am ok with the 6.2. I don't need to pull grades at 70MPH with a trailer. Anyway, There seems to be a lot of 2011-2012 for sale and I am curious if I should avoid the 2011, or if there is a vin numbers I should stay away. from. I have heard about the valve issue, but I really don't know when they fixed that problem.

Sorry if I am beating a dead horse

Highly recommend 15-16. Fixed many of the early 6.7L issues (Turbo, glow plugs etc) and still made out of steel.

Unfortunately they are out of my price range. I would love on that new but they seem to be a fair bit more money.

They're a good chunk of change more, but it's totally worth it in terms of what you're getting and the confidence that you have Ford's most solid version of the engine. Things really stabilized around 2014, but the 2015 trucks are where it's at.

What did they update and take care of? I'm looking at a really nice 11-29-10, 2011 with 68k. It has pretty much everything I want. Just would be a bummer to let one slip.

The early ones had issues with:

-HPFP grenading at random
-Glow plugs dropping
-Valves dropping
-Turbos seizing up and having to be replaced

The 2015 and newer ones have revised and updated:

-Injectors
-Larger Turbo
-HPFP
-Glow plugs
-Heads
-Valves

Check the oasis report on the 2011 and see how it looks.

2015-16 is worth the money if reliability is a concern and has shown to retain its value, hence the hefty price tag for used trucks. 17 has some new revisions so still waiting on long term reviews, but, its also made of aluminum which can be a nightmare to get fixed until more body shops are trained.

My 2011 was purchased at 83K. Now at 105K.
#6 injector, def tank, a/c sensor. No other issues. Pulls like an M1 Abrams.

I checked OASIS before purchase...nothing. But that doesn't mean I trusted it.
Maybe I lucked-out...maybe it's a replacement engine...who knows?
Purpose use only...hauls 21,000lb 5th wheel up & down Colorado I-70.

Well I ended up getting a 2014 Long bed, lariat, 4x4 with 90K on it. I technically don't have it yet. I need to get the funds wired over, and then my buddy is going to pick it up and keep it at his place for a week or two before I find the time to go pick it up. I hope its a good truck for me.

Congrats on the truck! Glad you went with a newer model vs the 11 or 12.
