Rust in floor

When you open the door the area that has the speaker wires running to the back has some rust. It is not all the way thru but I am not sure if I should clean and paint it or cut it out and replace it. If I do replace it what would you call the piece? Thanks

Lift the vinyl flooring up as much as possible till you see clean rust free paint. Sand grind sand blast etc all the rust away, if it's not spotless use a rust converter first then use a quality etching primer followed by a high build primer and then top coat with paint. That will stop what has started, now figure out WHY this happened. It's either from people getting in with salt covered boots and the vinyl let's it run down into the cavity or it's because ford didn't seal the holes and slits in the body floor like I'm thinking is the main issue. When my 2004 was brand new I noticed the open holes and slots so I used drai less bolts and washers and black silicone on the holes. On the slots I used over sized stainless fender washers wirh a good glob of silicone to seal it all up. It's now 2017 and I never once had water come through and I have ZERO rust

The holes that hold the plastic I removed do go thru the floor and I can see the ground on some but the truck does not have rust on the under side. You bring up a good point about saltwater. I own a center Console boat that I fish out of and when I launch and load it I always get in knee deep, it just makes it easier when alone. I always bring water back in so maybe I need to get floor mats that hold water. I will clean it up as stated then find a way to keep salt water out of there.

We all know the only things saltwater does not bother is saltwater fish and more saltwater lol. Thanks for the advice
