I don't want to, but I have to. Does anybody have any advice? Mine are very rotten and there is not much to save in some sections.
It seems that it would not be too hard to cut them flush, but I'm not sure how to deal with the +/- inch (no the lip/channel part) that sits flush along the inside of the door frame area.
At first I thought I was going to be able to save them, but they're too far gone. I've seen trucks that have had it done so any advice would be appreciated.
Some one can n here has done or is process of it. As. Recall, there are two sheets on metal that are rolled to create the gutter. My suggestion would be to do sections at a time and tack weld as you go.
IIRC, there are three layers... the inner and outer, and the driprail is a separate piece that is sandwiched between.
The crew at Martin Bros. Customs (on Velocity Channel's "Iron Resurrection) shaved the rails on a C10 but added a narrow strip to create a very small flare which still shed/drip water beyond the window frame gap.
I've seen many dents in the junk yard with the windshield gasket lip all rusted out due to the gasket leaking. So if you do shave off the drip rail make sure your w-shield gasket don't leak. Or just keep it out of the rain an car wash that could let water get under the seals lip.
