Ok so I'm hoping that some one can answer a question that I have about the spark plugs for the 5.0 coyote in these trucks as that is what is in my tuck.
So at 52k miles I had a misfire in cylinder 3. And I figured it was time to replace the spark plugs even though Ford says they're good for 100k. Anyway I did so and that corrected my misfire. However my question is this. The replacement plugs that I got at the parts house were motorcraft CYFS12Y. The originals I believe were CYFS12. And the current ones that I just put in at just shy of 100k miles are motorcraft CYFS12FI. Can anyone tell me what the differences are between these plugs please?
Also when do you all change your plugs out? Do you wait for a misfire and DTC? Or do you change them proactively before that becomes an issue?
Also my other question is right on the side of the box for the new plugs it states that these plugs are NOT gapable. But if you check the gap with a gap tool the replacement plugs are set between .054-.057. And if you look in the owners manual for these trucks it states the gap should be between .041-.047. So which is correct and do you regap your plugs, or do you just install the way they are and call it good? Me, I readjusted the gap to .044. And the truck is running flawless. So what are your opinions?

FoMoCo changed the spark plug gap spec' in 2012 to .049"-.053" (from .041"-.047").

For what's it worth, I never, I'll say that again, NEVER put a non nimbered part or any part in a Ford that's not IDENTICAL to the factory part. The spark plugs may be so close it doesn't matter. (Spark plugs.com may help here)
I will only use Motorcraft filters, oil, filters, trans fluid, stark plugs, etc on a Ford I own. Everytime I have varied from that something happened so I've learned my lesson. All my other cars seem to care less but Fords just seem to know when your screwing with them.
I'm the same way jimmy-six. And FWIW these new plugs and coils I purchased from the Ford dealer that we use where I work. Heck I even go so far as to use Ford Motorcraft wiper blades on my vehicles. And I get that part numbers and engineering number get changed all the time. I was just curious to know if anyone knew the differences between these plugs.
