I discovered the Limited has a 72/100000 Ford ESP warranty taken out by the original owner. So either she really cared about this vehicle (which she sold after only 2 years) or she decided to beat on it from the beginning so she got the best warranty.
There's only 1 year left but 33000 miles. The downside is that the only way I can get the ESP transferred into my name is by having the original owner sign a waiver. How am I supposed to find the original owner? Okay, so that's the official policy. Having said that, does the dealership really check? Has anyone been caught using ESP not in their own name? Or is it really easy to get work done?
You should be able to transfer the ESP without a waiver,I did a few yrs ago and I believe it cost 100.00 to do so.
By the way, a "leased " vehicle could be under most states rules , a police vehicle, goverment agency, rental car or other fleet car.
And, yes a Limited can and has been used as a police car as well as many Explorer EB's and XLT's . Don't forget Ford owns most of
if not all of Budget and Hertz. The Carfax will not tell you that if leased if it was used for fleet or police use and most agencies
require now a ESP through a specific time/mileage level.
If you really want to know, forget Carfax check the VIN thru a
friendly Ford dealer as to owners and /or your local DMV office.
Carfax is good but it is possible to hide a lot of things especially
through multiple auction sales.
just check it out, the Ford dealer can tell you all about it if
they will from day one in service to today, as far as service and
warranty claims and how many owners etc.if THEY will.
Originally posted by madymo3d How do you know which dealers deal exclusively with lease returns and are reputable? I thought franchise dealerships get first pick on the cream of the crop trade-ins and lease returns. The rest they send to auction. "Private" used car lots then get their cars at the auction from the dealer rejects. That's not to say that dealer inspections can miss something and get a bad vehicle or let a good one go to auction.
The place I was talking about is a "used car dealer only" and they go to auction and buy lease vehicles that were turned in By franchised dealers (whew). The public never see's these cars at auctions because they aren't open to the public. There are thousands of lease turn in's every month in Pa. alone and dealers can't afford or want to hold on to them. They want to sell new vehicles or used ones that they didn't pay much for. Then you have public auctions that have for the most part junk! If a dealer that buy's hundreds of cars at auction has a problem with a vehicle.......they send it back to auction. Not that lemmons dont slip thru but you can buy a brand new car and get one too. As far as reputable dealers......do research.....better business buerau, car assoc. etc.......I disagree on what was said about carfax........its one of many things that help you make the right choice. And In Pa. all titles have designation codes that have to state weather its a recon title, taxi, police, fleet etc....ask to see the title if your states the same.
*BTW the township i live in uses explorers and excursions for the cops........they no good $%$
95 Limited: What is the IAC? I took off and cleanded out the mass airflow sensor and that got rid of the pinging that my 94 Explorer was experiencing. Where is the IAC located, what does it do?
