I just test drove a dually here in Austin that came from Georgia and it's rusted up pretty bad, the front doors are breaking at the seams of the forward Edge. Lots of other mechanical issues too. I'm wondering, where would a fella look if he wanted to find a 350 dually in good shape?
Ditto on making your own. You can be way more selective with the vehicle.
Could I source an F-350 drw for parts? Would that get me all needed parts including master cylinder, hubs, axles, fender flares? Does the steering box need to be changed? Probably would need a custom driveshaft.
I see more 6.0 Powerstroke motors than 7.3s for sale. Bullet proofing a 6.0 with limited clearance might suck. Body off required?
Lots to think about... Maybe you can drop a clean E body onto an F-350 drw and get the same results easier.
I can't tell you absolutely on any of that, but from my snooping around, I would say probably not. The frames are different, the axles are different. As for just the vans, I'm not sure about the rear, but I'm pretty sure on the front you just need the drw rotor and hub setup. The box van we had looked exactly the same as the 15 passenger we have now except the hub is spaced out off the rotor for the drw set. I'm sure someone else will respond with some good information. You can see them here.
One last thing is that if I were pulling a heavy trailer much, I'd probably go with the shorter (12 passenger) body. The rear overhang on the extended body is quite far.
