Hello to all. I'm a new member and potentially a new owner doing my research. I've always wrenched on classic Mustangs and have a 66 convertible. Recently a family friend approached me about buying his 1950 F1 pickup that I have always admired. He is getting ready to retire and is trying to clean out his sheds for projects that are closer to his heart. He told me to make him a fair offer, but I have no idea where to start.
It is in prime petina condition that is mostly black. It is a flathead v8 that may or may not turn over. It is intact and original with most of the glass and has been in a shed for years. Not much info but what would be a fair price?
Welcome to the crazy fun FTE group. Hopefully you get the truck. Pictures will get you answers quicker than long descriptions. Every one on this forum loves pics. The guys/gals that know what they are doing will come along soon so try to get them soon. Good luck.
Pictures would be a huge help but also location. Upper Midwest bring higher prices than in sunny dry Arizona.
Understood on the pictures- his goal over the next few weekends is to clear enough shed clutter away so I can get an idea of overall condition- I will follow up when I have more info / thank you
Use your experience with Mustangs...condition, emotional attachment, expedience, all factors in setting a price. If you have been drooling over this truck then that will also affect the seller's price. Something to be said for the "bird in the hand" as well...he has a buyer ready to step up, no cleaning, no advertising, no hassling with tire kickers. You guys will work it out....
Your question is hard to answer with what you've provided. A major factor to consider is what your intentions are for the truck. Completeness of Power train, body, and interior isn't that important if you plan on putting a modern power train, power steering, A/C and fancy interior in it. But if you want to restore it and resell it the more that's there the more it's worth. Also a Deluxe version is worth a little bit more.

$1500.00 is a nice starting point but do not be shocked if he comes back with $3500.00 or more. If he is doing his due diligence, he will be using e-bay as a benchmark and that is what complete, unmolested old Fords are bringing, on a good day.
Picture #3 indicates a serious problem with that panel. It may be beyond repair. And if there is one panel there will be more. You may have a rust bucket there that will require lots and lots of body work.
Just my opinion, you have to decide what you want to do with the truck. Get it running and driving? Complete restore? Flip it? That's where price comes in too. A person that wants to get it running and drive the way it is might pay a little more. A person doing a full restoration sees it as "what are it's needs?" they will break it down because of cost of restoration. A flip is get it as cheap as possible and put on ebay. My guess is if it has papers, and you want to get it running, driving and that's good enough, 3200-3500. Maybe up to 3800- 4000 if you know motor will run. Restoration value would be less because of its needs maybe 2500 to 3000. A flip would be as cheap as you can get it. But if he's your friend I wouldnt go to low.
