So my driver's side wiper won't sit down in the middle section. It's ok at the bottom, but once it sweeps up, it forms a gap. Only the edges keep contact. I've tried 2 new wipers, same result.
Is that a function on the spring? Is there something I can adjust?
Sounds to me like the tensioning spring is worn out, so it’s not pushing the arm against the window as hard as it used to. I’ve had that happen before too. I would replace the wiper arm. They’re not terribly expensive.
I've had this exact same problem with mine since buying it a year ago. I've gone through 4 new pairs of blades, all different brands, and a new set of wiper arms. I have also tried bending the arms, all have failed. Apparently a lot of people on this board experience this same issue and always with this drivers side. I don't know what else it could, the windshield itself perhaps?
Good luck, please let us know if you get it figured out!
It's the arm. I had the exact same issue. Would wipe the windshield and leave a perfect circle unwiped in the middle of the driver side. New arms have the springs and will add the pressure back. I think I spent 30 on both at oreillys.
I'll post my resolution when I get to it. First try might be a spring from ACE Hardware. They have an excellent selection of all types.
Let me know what you find out....
I tried that too from ACE hardware. Still didn't help! Ughhh
I even created a post about this and I updated it I believe, that it didn't work.
As was stated, many of us have the same problem with the driver side. My last resort is Motorcraft Wiper arms. They are high, but I'm really tired of the half-*** wipe job, lol

Good to know. I'll see if I can find a cheap price on OEM somewhere. I didn't know parts stores have generic versions. $15 seems like a good gamble if I can't find some NOS.
There are other options on eBay as well, so possibly you could even find a better deal. But this seems to be in the ballpark of price for a brand new set.
FWIW, I just replaced my year old Michelin wipers with a set of Motorcraft WW1801P and it has solved the problem of myself and OP's problem of not wiping a giant mark dead center on driver side, and they are much quieter! Rock Auto currently has them for $6.62 a piece. Hope this helps.
All fixed. Just got the Dorman part for $11 after coupon from O'Reilly near my house. I could have attempted a spring replacement, but i think the pivot wasn't smooth (arm and base pivot point that the spring acts on). It's riveted so not rebuild able. Surely, some silicone lube would have temporarily done the trick. But for $11, i'm happy.
