Compatible 2V 5.4 engines?

2008 E-350 needs a 5.4L engine. I know 09+ are flex fuel and listings for 08 include 04-08. I don't know what is different with the 97-03. I found a low mile 02 van engine local but not sure what is different. I want to buy a used engine and would like to know what years and if F-250/F350 engines are also compatible. Thanks.

I believe 1997-2000 are non PI head engines.

You might find small differences between years, but nothing that can't be removed from the old engine and installed on the replacement. Everything from 2001-present should be compatible.

The 3V engines used in the F-series from 2004-present will not work.
