Removing pollution control equipment
1983 custom 300/4sp w/OD
I use this Bronco at our deer lease and it is home for wire repair or replacement after a rat made its home under the hood. While its here, I would like to remove the pollution control equipment where would I find info on how to do this or does anyone have any advice.

Externally I think an '83 has a smog pump, a pcv, evap, and the ignition timing is probably part of the mix.
Leave the PCV and evap alone. No power lost, pcv keeps the engine clean and you don't need fumes and a plumbing job dumping the evap.
The smog pump can be pulled. You need to plug up whatever it's connected to so you don't have exhaust leaks.
You might fiddle with the idle and timing to get the best idle. You may be able to run a little more advance for example.
Check for an EGR also. You have to fab a way to plug that off at the intake side.
IF you have a computer controlled carb, you might need to replace that to get away from the possible odd-running that starts to happen when other components are removed.
