You have to readjust the timing if you take it off and plug the intake manifold.
what??
the smog pump has nothing to do with the intake manifold. you must be thinking of the EGR which you should leave alone regardless. removing smog equipment is illegal and selling the truck down the road might pose and issue.
If you have factory exhaust I would be careful plugging that because that feeds air into the cat and if it is not working right or removed it can cause the cat to overheat and get plugged. I agree with kemical, really no performance gain.
The smog pump puts air in to the system so the unbearnt gases can burn in the cat. If you unhook it, those gases will pass out your exhaust. So your cat will run cooler. If you could remove it completly, you would have a small gain in HP. But I dont know how you would run your belt. I dont know if they even make a serpintine belt for that configuration.
its a trial and error process on the belt. I had to do it when i pulled the ac off my old mustang. The belt just bypasses the smog and heads straight to the crank.
The cat you could get by with using a GM non air cat, since GM didnt use air like ford employed. Very minor gain in the engine not using energy to turn an accessory, read no gain in horsepower. You dont have to worry about a CEL if you have an older truck that didnt check for the opening and closing of the vacuum valves as long as you just took the switches off the vacuum supply and left them connected to the wiring harness.
I'm doing the same thing right now...actually already did it..everything except the pump......course...I'm doing GT40 heads and plugging the backof them off...cleans up your engine compartment too.....
