I need to change out my fuel filter, and am always a little extra nervous around pressurized gas. This is the first time on this vehicle, and it is located near exhaust. Are there any special concerns (things to watch out for) when doing this on a 2000 e150 4.6?
It was an easy process on my 96 F150, it was also far away from heat sources.
Much appreciate any experience you want to share.
Sorry that no one has answered you yet.
First thing is make sure the van is cold. Letting it sit overnight would be good.
The best way to relieve the fuel pressure is to disconnect the fuel pump inertia switch and then start the engine until it runs out of gas. Chances are pretty good though that if you leave it sit overnight the fuel pressure will be gone anyway.
After that just pop the safety clips off the hoses and use the special tool to remove the hoses from the filter. Always put a rag over the hoses where they go onto the filter though when you first pull them off in case there is any pressure left in the lines.
