Tailgate Handle

with all the threads about the tailgate opening on its own (remote release), I am wondering if we can come up with a conversion solution for those of us who want to get rid of the power push button handle.

my gate has not released on its own (yet), but has frozen a couple of times last winter.

my truck has the power gate with camera, reverse light and powerlock. I have a lariat ultimate.

who has a standard handle with camera, reverse light and power lock? what trim does your truck have?

I am willing to investigate and see if a non-push button handle can be retrofitted.

lets put our minds together and see if we can come up with a parts list and make this retrofit work.

thanks

The remote key fob that I've carried in my pocket since the day they first introduce to the Ford vehicles has buttons that are very easily activated unintentionally. I've had my horn alarm go off, I've have found my doors unlocked and now a power tailgate release. When I decided to take my keys and fob out of my pocket at home, all of these phenomenons stopped happening.

I'm thinking that if Ford made the buttons on the fob no so sensitive, someone would complain that they are too hard to push.

I doubt there is a manual tailgate handle and latch option for our trucks.

Perhaps someone will discover a way to disable this function using Forscan. You can disable the panic button, so I'd think this might be similar. Might also be able to disable the actual button in your remote. Just a couple of ideas.

Looking at Ford build site. an XLT with power equipment group gets the remote unlock handle, but appears to be manual. The camera is included. Premium package has a chrome handle. Light maybe part of the ultimate camera package

I could be wrong but I think there 2 kinds of cameras used on the tail gate depending on if you have the single or multi camera option

over on the FB 2017 powerstroke page, there is a member who has done the swap. waiting for details from him.

Perusing the internet, I have found a Lariat Value truck that has exactly what I am looking for. I put that VIN into fordparts.com and came up with these parts:

Control
Tailgate-Black Handle Center Latch, With Power Door Locking, Tailgate - With Flexible Step; Includes Actuator

Tailgate Handle
Tailgate - With Flexible Step, Chrome Liftgate Handle, Door Entry R/Cont Unit - 2 Keys, Rear View Camera-Fixed, Trailer Hook Up Light-Fixed, Tailgate-Black Handle Center Latch, Towing Vision System, Trailer Camera

it doesn't give me part numbers though
