LAST EDITED ON 06-Nov-01 AT 07:00 PM (EST)[p]hi, i've been ghosting the site for some time now, and i wanted to be able to post. My family owns a ford diesel, awesome truck. i am about to get my first truck, and i was wondering what kind of reliability and gas mileage and economy a 1993 f-150 with a 302 and 109,000 miles on it would bring me. and i was wondering what dual exhaust would sound the best on this engine? i really want to get this truck, but my auto shop classmates are all chevy. i need some reinforcement! any help would be extremely welcomed, and thanked!
if some is good, more is better
1991 Ford Superduty-7.3 idi, exhaust stack, 444ci of big block power!, dually, 12' flatbed
My 93 F-150 4X4 w/302, Flowmaster series-40 cat-back, and K&N filtercharger, 31X10.5 meats gets a respectable 20-21 MPG on the open road at a steady 65 MPH. Short trips, around town driving, forget it...I'm afraid to check but it's got to be in the single digits. Reliability, funness to drive is great. Don't buckle under the peer preasure...GO FORD!!!!!
First of all I would like to welcome you to ford truck message boards. The gas mileage on 302 is nothing to praise, but it may actually be higher than expected. If you treat the gas pedal like an egg and keep it low in the rpms, it could go up to 14 or 15 combined city/highway, the usual mileage is about 10.
The reliability factor depends on the history of the truck you buy, and if it has a good maintenance schedule record.
How loud do you want your truck?
Also I would like to make a comment. I’ve noticed that the people that drive Chevy’s tend to have a lower IQ than people that drive fords. Am I just crazy or has anyone else noticed this. I’m sorry if I offended any one. Hahaha!
