Fixed that #$% starting problem

I don't post much here but I read up on the board sometimes. For the benefit of other Bronco owners: I had an intermittent no-start thing on my 86 302 TFI. Ran great but cranked longer than a well-tuned engine should before starting. Also every now and again it would just crank without any sign of starting. Shut the key off and 5 minutes later it would usually start right up. It was annoying and embarrassing! I got a code reader and didn't find anything real odd there but while running the KOER test I ran into the no-start thing. I immediately re-ran the KOEO code reader test and it wouldn't even activate the computer...dead! On a hunch I picked up a replacement EEC power relay for $15.00. The hard part was finding the old one (under the dash, clipped to the side of the EEC computer). I plugged in the new one and it now starts way quicker, and so far no more no-start problems. YAY!

I'm curious also, but mine starts great after sitting for a long time, but warmed up it takes quite a few cranks.

Mine was intermittent, maybe once every week or two. Ran great once it ran, but every now and then it would almost start, then do nothing but crank, as if the rotor was not in the distributor. Lately it was getting more frequent, and twice lately it quit shortly after I began driving, then fired up after a few tries. I'd feel stupid telling you how many parts I replaced (but parts is cheaper than dealers usually). I can tell you I have shiny new ignition switch, distributor module (it really did go bad), fuel pump relay, fuel pump, fuel pressure relief valve, not to mention a cool digital code reader.

Well glad to know you got it fixed, stuff like that can be a major pain, but mines different, it always starts knock on wood! tap! tap! but it just dont want to fire right up first thing in the mornings, it wants to spinn a few times. ? Good luck with yours. DW
