Tow Bar ???

Does anyone see an issue with using something like this for a tow bar??

Bulldog Receiver Mount #20186

SPECS:
-2.5" x 2.5" Class V (15K lb) receiver mount with 7/8" shackle
-CNC machined solid steel mount with nickel plating for corrosion resistance
-Forged alloy steel shackle with zinc plating
-Break strength is 78,000 lbs and WLL (working load limit) is 13,000 lbs
-Shackle hole = 1"

A 7/8" or 3/4" pin is used to connect fertilizer/lime trailers with a clevis hitch. Most of the time people just use a ball receiver mount with the ball removed. The class III ball mounts that most use has a 1" hole and is rated for 5,000-6,000 lbs.

It always seems weird to me that you hook up a 1500 lb trailer with 8000 lb (4 ton) load (about 10,000 total) to a Class III ball mount. I realize most of the weight is on the trailer axles but there is a lot of banging around going on at the mount with a pretty good load.

The problem with most Class IV/V ball mounts is they have a 1 1/4" hole so you wind up with a lot more play in the hole you're towing with.

Something like the Bulldog receiver mount seems to have much more beef..... plus the 1" hole. I talked to etrailer and Bulldog and they didn't really have much comment one way or the other. They indicated that it would work but that's not really what it's designed for. (I just don't understand the difference in tugging on recovery strap and tugging on a loaded trailer I guess).

Anyway........ thought someone here wouldn't mind telling me what they think. Thanks for any comments!!!!!!

I use one of THESE for tieing ropes to the back of my F250.
But I have to watch my loads because I have some ropes that can break it.
