zf 5 speed

how strong is a zf 5 speed, can it handle a healthy 390 or a diesel in an old highboy 250? i've only been around one and it is ready to go anytime now, but then of course its behind a 500 horse 460

zf 5 speed

There are two versions of the ZF 5speed I believe in 95 on up are rated for 470 foot pounds of torque and pre 95 are 420 ft pounds of torque.

There's also a two versions that have different ratios. One for a diesel and one for a gas.

ZF is not available with 390 bellhousing bolt pattern.

how is that? I thought that there was 3 in the big blocks. windsor small block,the 351c and 351m, then the bigblocks.

zf 5 speed

The 385 series big blocks have a different bolt pattern from the FE series. The ZF could be adapted; given enough time and money, anything is possible. If you want to put a bulletproof 5 speed in a FE powered 250, you might want to consider Advanced Adaptors kit to put an NV 4500 from a Dodge Cummins Diesel in a Ford. The kit's not cheap and neither is the tranny, but it's wrth looking into.
