6.2 or 6.7

Still trying to figure out the best configuration for me. I love the diesel motors but I don't really tow anything on a regular basis. I had a 2000 F250 with the gas V8, 4.10 gears and 35's. If got the job done but wasn't the fastest truck nor did it get great mileage. My two diesels since then had more power and better mileage. I know financially it is splitting hairs as the added mpg doesn't get you ahead thanks to the higher costs that go along with the diesel.

I still feel like the 6.2 would be that sluggish motor compared to the 6.7. Does anyone have any feedback?

And I tried doing the f150.....but I just don't like them as much as the 250's. Even though they are so similar at this point. But the lower stock stance, smaller front end and slightly shorter bed (6.5 vs 6.75) just doesn't make me love the truck.

Cant comment too much as I am in the same boat, but here is a thread to consider. It covers many years but some good notes within.

With everyone's wants and needs being different, you're going to definitely get mixed replies. I would just go drive both and go from there. I had the 6.2 in my F150, was an excellent motor with plenty of power.

Depends on how heavy you tow and how much you tow.

If not get the 6.2.

I just bought the 6.2 and it tows my boat weighing 7000+ with ease. Has plenty of power for me.

I really like my 6.7, but wouldn't call the 6.2 sluggish. The big thing is that you have to really get into it so the trans will shift high to make power with the 6.2. The 6.7 has more power at 2200 RPMs than the 6.2 at 5000 RPMs. That may feel sluggish if you are bothered by reving an engine high often (personally, it really bugs me).

If I did get the 6.2, with 35's in mind, what gear should I get? 4.10? And what kind of mileage could I expect? I'm guessing 14ish.

I have the 3.73 gears and still on my first tank of gas, getting about 12 mpg. Mostly in town driving.

go with 4.30
only options are 3.73 or 4.30. 4.10 only available on F350 DRW Diesel

Is it a correct assumption that a 6.7 with 35's and 3.55 gears would have better mileage and feel like it had more power then 6.2 with 35's and 4.30 gears?

4.30 gears seems really low but give the options, I guess that is the best choice.

The 6.2 has plenty of passing power. Is it as fast or strong as the 6.7? No

If you don't tow anything, get a 6.2 and tune it.

I posted a vid over in the 6.2 engine forum of mine tuned and it has plenty of passing power and can hang with a stock 6.7 off the line. It won't out tow one though, and all bets are off it the 6.7 is tuned.

In the end, buy what you want, but know that the modern 6.2 is nothing like the V8 in your 2000 truck.

Same boat here. Don't tow much so no real need for a diesel. Yes, the added power of the diesel would be nice but added costs were the decider for me.

I got a 6.2 with the 3.73 gears and I would probably go 4.30 if I had it to do over but the truck has plenty of power. In fact, I was hoping the F250 would help with my lead foot (traded a 5.7 Tundra that always seemed to be happiest going 90 on the interstate..) but the 6.2 is no slouch and this truck is just as happy cruising 85+.....I keep the digital speedo on the screen at all times to remind me to slow down).........long story short, I don't think you can go wrong with either choice.

Test drive both and buy the one you like the best that fits your needs and budget. I got the 6.2 and I've never felt slow driving it. If you ask me if you're not towing the added cost of a diesel would be a waste of money.

I just came from a 00' f250 with the v10 and now have a 17' f250 with the 6.2, 35" tires and 3.73 gears. Night and day from the old V10, the new truck could blow the doors off my old truck even with the 35" tires and it pulls my 25ft boat with ease. Just for kicks I stomped it from sitting still on pavement and she burnt the tires.

I test drove the 6.7 before getting the 6.2 both are nice but I couldn't justify the extra up front cost of the diesel.

Go look at the 6.2 thread on this site, people talking about the color of their trucks or a football game, nice and quiet over there.

Mileage is the only drawback, 12 at the max.
