But verify that it runs up to the starter relay. You can do this with a volt-meter when the battery is connected, or an ohm-meter if you don't trust electricity!

That should go to the FLD post.
Also easy to verify with an ohm-meter that it's the same Orange wire as on the voltage regulator.

Might be faded (very faded!) white maybe? I hope so, because I'm pretty sure that the STA wire should be White with a black stripe.
But no matter. You can actually check it to find out. Or leave it off for now.

Yeah, I saw that in the earlier pic. It was obvious that not only were the ends re-done but they were even spliced to different color wires in some cases. Like what looks to be blue at the end of the orange wire.
If it comes down to it, since your wiring is obviously "distressed" to say the least, you can literally replace those wires very easily with new. New, one piece wires, rather than cobbled together.
And even though a good crimp is a very good way to connect, down at the alternator (or anywhere on the engine actually) I like to use solder and shrink wrap too. Just keeps moisture at bay for a longer time.

Good luck. But at least re-orient those wires and see what happens.

Paul
Ill get that done tomorrow, the black wire does run up to the starter relay and the orange goes to the power regulator also the white wire is VERY faded it took a bit of soap to clean it and you can barely see the white.

Thank you so much for helping me out Paul I'll keep you updated on how it goes.

Hey, it's 44 years old. It can fade all it wants!
And if fading is the only electrical problem we have with these old wires, we're lucky. Some just fade, others fail. And I know which I'd rather have!

All seems good! I've replaced that blue thing on the orange wire to the alternator, put the black on the BAT,orange on the FLD

Got new voltage regulator because it was something must have fried it due to the alternator being hooked up wrong also got new positive and negative cables for the battery.

While the truck sits with the positive on the battery the volts stay at 12.39 and while the truck is running the volts go to 14.10 for once!

I have also fixed the break lights and that ghetto alligator clip thing so they work but I'm going I have to work on turn signals next.

Thank you for so much for helping me out with this Paul if you still have any questions or concerns I'll be here to answer.

Yeah, wire is wire. And now that you mention it, I don't remember seeing much in the way of Orange wire around either.

Did you ever notice whether or not there was that little Black ground wire coming out of that same "strain relief" there where all the wires are molded in to that rubber blob on the back of the alternator?
Remember it's normally connected to that attaching ring under the nut that holds the whole thing in place.
If it's not there, when you get the chance you should add one more wire. Smallish (can be anything, but the factory uses like an 18 or 20 gauge if I remember) Black wire from the case ground over to the voltage regulator bolt.

Not critical all the time, but a good thing to have over the long haul.

Glad it's working. Nice job on cleaning that up and putting things right.

Yes there was a black ground wire that was in the strain relief and since I had to cut that blue wire off the orange wire and replace it with the black so that yellow rubber part covers the exposed wire.
