Does anyone know what the difference between these 2 systems are? According to the ownwers manual in my 2003, the pictures look identical. I didn't read all the way through to see if they explained the difference. Just wondering.
I had a monsoon in my 2000 expy eb and the audiophile in my 03 expy eb. I have to say the the new one stinks. I'm looking into replacing the speakers as a first fix.
If quality sound is important to you go with the premium.
Nickalbu.....I am on the same path as you. I went from a 2000 EB to the 2003, and I agree, the 2000 system sounded much better. It is not a big deal to me, as this still sounds "ok"...not great, just "ok", so I probably won't do anything. So you say the Premium would be a better system though? Also....what do you think about the 03 compared to the 00 overall?
I only suspect the Premium will be better. I was supprised though because the basic one comes with all the features, 6 in dash cd's etc. I guess it's just a way to grab more money.
You're right about it being ok. When I have people in it and we're talking, it does the job, but when I'm alone and I want to crank it, it really comes up short. In other cars I've found that the unit has the power and they cheap out on the speakers so I alway replace them first. Sometimes that's all it needs.
Getting off this topic, I love the 03. It's funny though the 00 was a truck and that's what I loved about that. Stand up tall above everyone else, grunt, grunt.
The 03 is very much refined. With the load leveling it sits right down so I don't have to step on the running board to get in. The engine/transmition is much smoother and quieter, steering and suspesion is sooo tight and nimble. It really a different vehicle all together.
Yet put it in 4x4Low feel it rise up and pull that boat right out of the water, you have all the power and traction the old one had.
The difference I found is that the Audiophile system has DSP settings (like surround sound home theatre systems) for Stadium, Jazz Club, Concert Hall, Church, etc... The premium system has a Compression button to allow you to crank it louder without the peaks distorting the speakers.
Also the Audiophile system has 260 Watts and a subwoofer in the third row (driver's side). Not sure if the premium has one...
I like the audiophile system so far - especially with the DVD. Would like to change the speakers with better ones that would fit the stock appearance grills, etc... Any recommendations?
Go to a reputable auto stereo store. They can suggest speakers that will fit your truck without modification, and even install them if you want.
Some dealers I've delt with don't even do their own audio work but farm it out. You could ask your local dealer who does there audio work and start there. I like this option because they already know your vehicle and have the proper tools to work on the interior.
I've done this in the past with other vehicles and found a fantastic improvement in the quality of sound without changing the in-dash unit.
