My 06 has an aftermarket double din stereo that is in bad shape. I looked for some aftermarket radios and there are a ton to choose from, and they don't seem particularly inexpensive. I'd like to have one that I can use to play using music from my phone - so either one with AUX cable or bluetooth. I'm not a huge audiophile so I'm not wanting to break the bank. Any suggestions?
Do you want GPS ?
The Pioneer I have and HATE to no end as far as the GPS goes
lets you plug the phone in or use Bluetooth. It also has hands free
so you keep the cops happy. Then there is the option for a backup
camera. You can use the phone as you music source of you can use
USB or a SD card and it will play MP3 CD/DVDs.
One interesting thing about the 06 it does have VSS signal to the factory
head unit plug. VSS being the speed signal. Also you can pull the backup
signal from over in the passenger side kick panel.
Here are some useful diagrams and the factory plug for the radio.
For my V10 all I really wanted was Bluetooth streaming/calling, SiriusXM and regular radio (for local sports). I bought a cheap Sony single DIN unit with BT and I got a SiriusXM module that was free after a rebate, mounting gear and harness for $120ish. You can find a other brands with similar features in double DIN all around a similar price. You don't need to spend a bunch
If you want touch screen, backup camera, GPS be prepared to spent a bunch more on a dedicated units or start looking at Andriod based units.
Un my searching I find that the price break point is when you add the GPS.
I have found some nice non-GPS units with everything for well under $500
add GPS and you up to the $900+ range most starting over $1000.
You guys are awesome, thank you. I ended up getting a double din Pioneer that came with a backup camera for $500. I don't need the GPS, but because of the size of the truck I figured a back up camera was a good investment. Now to find someone willing to install for a half decent price. Thanks again!
The camera is the only part that takes more work.
You need to find the hot in reverse wire. The rest
is simple. I always use a harness adaptor and keep
the factory plug. On top of the PDFs I posted already
you only need one more bit of info and that is where
to get the reverse signal. Have a look at the PDFs.
C4014 is behind the passenger side kick panel.
I found when adding my camera that spot has
the easiest wire to get at. No digging up in the dash
to find a wire that is behind something.
The only thing you need is a good set of crimpers, wire
stripera and some #18~#22 butt connectors. Also you
may want a few ring crimps and some hook up wire to
get the reverse signal from the passenger side to the center
where the head unit will be. The only thing left will be
camera power, video and a mount for the camera.
EDIT : Look at the PAM (Parking Aid Module) connection
in the PDF I posted.
