I see you guys talk about the ODB2 port tool that connects to your phone. It gives out important info like tranny temps ect. What's this called? What's a good one to get. What app is a good one to download? Thanks for the help!
There are also wifi OBD2 adapters, but in all the devices I have tried them on they take over the data, so that your device (phone or tablet) is only connected to the adapter instead of the internet. With the Bluetooth adapter, my device stays connected to the internet which is what I prefer.
Thanks for the great info. Do you know if the $20 one will read transmission temps?
The one I paid $6 for does. That is going to be dependent on whether the PCM reports that info and if the app you use shows that info. Torque does if you buy the paid version Torque Pro and add in the free TorqueScan upgrade.
I can also use Torque to set a guage to monitor whatever parameters I choose, including transmission temperature (as reported by the PCM), misfire counts both total and per cylinder, and speed by GPS and/or as reported by PCM plus many other custom gauges.
I'm considering FORSCAN. Currently using FCOM. Downloaded the Windows version, but having a little trouble connecting with my adapters.
Trans temp measurement is possible with Torque, but I think you may have to program a custom PID. I'm using the free version, perhaps the full version is a little more complete? Very useful app.
Torque is the first app I ever bought for Android. It is well worth the $5. Forscan app, not so much. It is a good app to have but if I was only going to buy one or didn't have any, I would get Torque Pro.
Forscan is free for Windows and if you want to program anything that is the only Forscan version that does programming.
You can either set up a computer right next to your car or use a laptop and a OBD2 to USB cable, or there are Bluetooth USB dongles available such as this if your Windows computer is not equipped with Bluetooth: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16833340023
I got the Windows version running and connected to my Bluetooth ELM 327 adapter. Was not entirely straightforward, but their support was helpful. Windows version won't program anything either until you get their extended license. Still free, but you have to sign up to their forum and download a registry key.
Seem to be a few bugs in the FORSCAN product. Ended up going back to my FCOM product to do the programming I wanted to do. (PATS with incode).
