An even less costly option than the tailgate step is the extended running boards - which takes the place of the long rake tool.

I got both that and the tailgate step, and am thankful for both, recommend both.

Another vote for the extended running boards! They are a fantastic option. So easy to reach in the bed now.

My dad made a device out of an old broom handle and an L bracket. We call it the "Grandpap stick"!

When I ordered my tonneau cover form Access Covers it came with an all aluminum version. Very handy!

Good point. I probably need mine more when there's a trailer attached. So I saved a few bucks and have an item that's more useful to me.
But everyone's got different uses. That's why there are different products.

The stripper pole is hidden inside the tailgate now. It is no longer on the back of the tailgate. Tailgate is nice and flat.

Retired the ever present purloined milk crate when buying the 2011 F 250 SC that the tailgate step replaced. Ditto the post that ~erik~ posted earlier. Love both options.

I absolutely recommend it. This is my first truck with the step and I can't imagine ever going without it again!

For those with 2017's with tailgate step, what does it take to remove the tail gate? What is the weight of the TG? Can it be removed and reinstalled safely by 1 person?
Thank you
