I used a new Dorman 6.0 cooler I got off eBay for $130. I cut all but about 2' of the steel lines out and flared the ends of the remaining steel line. I installed a Derale Fluid (180*) thermostat and use 1/2" barbs on one side and 3/8" on the other. I converted 90% of the line to 1/2" and used 3/8" hose to connect the transmission to the Derale thermostat. When I did the cooler I had a rebuilt transmission from the PO so I decided to add a Magnefine inline filter between the transmission and the cooler, so hot side of cooler. This ended up saving my new cooler when my TC died 3 months later, the filter was FULL of shavings and a metal paste. The shop was shocked by how much stuff the filter caught.
I just removed the new filter (1year old 12-15k miles) from the truck since I had the transmission rebuilt. I was really surprised how much stuff the Magnefine filter caught that the new transmission filter missed, definitely worth the $20 IMO. I posted a video on YouTube, I can post if you're curious.
