V10 High Pitched Tick
A few months ago I did spark plugs, and had to remove the intake to put an insert in the head for on spark plug that didn't want to go back in.
while I had the intake off, I polished the throttle body and cleaned the intake manifold (upper and lower part). I replaced the gaskets on that as well as the throttle body. I also replaced the injector o-rings.
At that point I also broke off the PCV breather valve in the drivers side valve cover. I repaired it by applying some JB Weld to it.
Tonight I decided to try and track down another bad ignition coil, I will be replaceing the drivers side 5 tomorrow and then when I get paid replacing the passenger side 4 that haven't yet been replaced.
Now to get to my noise. Ever since I did all this work about 3 months ago, I have been getting a very high pitched ticking/chirping upon acceleration. It is in tune with the manifold leak, but higher pitched, almost a whistle. The tick ONLY occurs while the truck is moving, I have revved it up and had someone hold the gas while parked and have been unable to hear it.
It is definitely located on the drivers side, somewhere in the rear of the motor I believe. I removed my dash panel and the noise has become much louder and more obvious. It happens right when I drive the truck after it has sat and cooled down, and once I get it up to temp it disappears.
I have read several places in this forum that these are similar to symptoms of a spark plug about to blow out. I got in and torqued all my spark plugs down again, checking first for any that might be loose.
Could this whistle be a result of the PCV breather hose fix not holding up? Could a small shard of aluminum from my head be causing such a noise while being pounded by the piston? I would think I'd hear the noise while revving in park, not just driving and certainly not disappearing after a few minutes.
I'd say it could be just another exhaust leak, but I don't think so because it didn't start until after I had the intake off and did all the things listed above. I'm doing headers on the truck soon, maybe that will solve my problem?
I replace the coil packs and applied liberal amounts of JB Weld to the PCV breather to seal it back to the valve cover, I'm going to let that set up and take her for a spin in an hour.
i just used standard JB Weld, I'm skeptical about the extreme heat stuff because it's a putty, not a mix and use setup.
i tightened down all my spark plugs again, I put dielectric grease in all my connectors to the coil packs and fuel injectors. I also noticed the rear fuel injector wasn't pushed down far enough, so I loosened the fuel rail bolt and forced the rail further down. Now the injector doesn't move side to side and the noise has disappeared.
