my airbag light came on.. and never went off... just flashes constantly... took it in to be looked at and was told air bag on passenger side was malfunctioning and would cost upwards of $1200 to fix (included replacing airbag)
of course...no longer under warranty...
since this is a "safety" feature... does anyone know if it should be covered regardless of warranty?
I don't know anything about air bags and the cost of repair but it might help others on the board to know what the code being flashed by the air bag light is. It should flash a certain number of times, followed by a pause, then another number of flashes, a longer pause followed by the same repitition of flashes. Mine flashed a code 37 three times. It meant a sensor under the passenger seat (broken wire) and a 36 is the same sensor under the drivers seat. What is the code yours is flashing?
If you check on e-bay, you should find lots of air bags for under $200. Someone has a brand new 1998 right now for a $125 buy it now. The air bag connects to the air bag diagnostic monitor. If the air bag is the only problem, I would think this would be an easy fix.

I pulled my plug under he seat passenger side and my light still flashes,is it another plug i need to pull
Hi, It's not a plug you unplug. It's a broken wire on the plug. Usually happens with people kicking it from the back seat. If you are getting a code 37 take a good, close look at the wires. They don't have to be off to be broken, the insulation can hold them together with the wire actually broken.
Hay I had the same problem, only code 36 ,the passenger side.Well all I had to do was re-seat the connecter.Just take your time and inspect the wiring and connecter.
