Hey guys...quick question about tranny Temps. My truck is a 16 F250 CCSB 4x4 6.2. I just moved to North Carolina from Florida. In Florida it is 100+ degrees every day and my transmission maintains a range from 196 to 203. I know that is perfectly normal. We were driving around NC yesterday (unloaded) and the Temps outside were in the high 60's. We were in the truck for a total of 2 hours so everything was up to temp. My transmission was ranging from 190-199. I thought the transmission thermostat keeps the tranny at at least 196.
So my question for the cooler weather guys...is it normal for your tranny to get as low as 190 during normal operating temps?
Rob, are you going by an actual dedicated transmission gauge or the idiot light? Just to show you the differences in temperatures I see in my 7.3L 4r100. I have a Ultragauge that monitors transmission temperatures AND an Autometer digital gauge that also monitors transmission temperatures. The Ultragauge monitors through the PCM which I believe Mark K had said is in the oil pan temps, this gauge is almost always hotter than the Autometer that is installed in the test port in my 4r100. The 2 gauges can read 10-15* difference especially when you first start driving BUT they always catch up to each other and are typically within 7* of each other. So there can be some differences in temperatures ranges.
I know this isn't Apples to Apples but hope it helps.
this spring.. I departed south Texas... was 101 degrees..
I had 1,500 pounds in bed of truck and towed 9,000 PLUS of trailer..
transmission temperature never went over half way (analog) ....
with 150,000 miles on truck.
