NSS hits linkage?

Ok I have a 78 f150 with a c4 transmission. Just got the truck and fixing a lot of issues to get it on the road it has sat for more than 5 years.
The old nss was held on with one bolt and was not on the linkage. I got a new one and tried to install it today. I put the truck in nuetral and a drill bit in nss to lock in correct position.

The bolt holes will not line up thee nss hit the linkage. Either I'm not installing it correctly of the arm coming out of the trans was installed in the worn get position?
Here is a pic

Darn it forgot which is which I think this one is in neutral. I'll check in the morning

I would have to say that you have the wrong replacement switch. If your old one was held on by one screw, the new one should be too.
I'm not familiar with the 1-screw type though. The one you have in the pics looks like the standard one I would have expected a '78 to have.
Could the trans have been changed at some point? Four wheel drive I presume?

Good luck.

Paul

Sorry for not being clear. The old nss was not installed properly was just kinda hanging there. The pan for the trans has been removed I can see silicone all over. It is a 2 wheel drive truck.

1978/79: C4 NSS different than C6.

NSS fits onto the end of the manual control selector lever. The threaded kick down lever fits thru the manual control selector lever, thru the NSS

The downshift lever fits to the NSS and then it's all retained by a nut.

It looks like this transmission came from a different vehicle. The manual shift lever is different . On a 78/79, the round part of the manual shift lever has 2 grooves in it for the bosses on the switch. The lever is also bent differently. The number I found for the correct lever is D8TZ-7A256-A.

C4 Upper pic applies to 1973/79 Econoline & 1978/79 F100/150.

7A247 is the NSS .. 7A256 is the manual control lever.

I pulled trans and motor and seems like the trans is from a 72 that is why NSS wont fit. Gonna go threw trans to hopefully stop the leaks! and find the correct control lever.

Thanks for the info

The problem is, you have a 1978, but the swapped C4 trans is from a 1972. 1967/77: NSS located on steering column.

I have had no luck finding a replacement so I can use the NSS.
Thinking of using one from a mustang any other ideas?
Anyone?
