hi,
i tried to do a forum search for replacement rotors for our SD trucks but came up with little information.(I'm computer illiterate 😬 . Nonetheless, I've put 6k on the truck since the dealership replaced the front rotors and pads but they started to warp a few hundred miles ago. I do have a lift and new 37" tires so I was wondering what rotor / pad combo works best for larger tires and towing. I was looking at EBC kits but I'm sure there are better and cheaper options.
thanks in advance.
I'm sure this has been discussed in great depth 🤔. I just couldn't find it. If someone knows of a post discussing this can you please point me in the right direction?
You are right it has been discussed, I apparently am no better at finding those threads than you are. This will give you a bump and maybe someone will remember one.
I went with this kit when I did mine. I've been happy for 20k miles and counting. https://m.summitracing.com/parts/pwr-k1906-36
Some guys have reported excellent results from cryo treated rotors.
I should add. Be sure to check your slide pins. I would pull them out, clean them, and grease them with silicone brake pin grease. If they stick, they will cause a dragging brake and warped rotors.
The reason that your rotors are warped is because of improper torquing of the wheels. Did your truck develop the brake shutter around 200 miles after somebody removed the wheels for some reason such as a tire rotation or replacement but was fine before that? I used to have to do warranty repairs on these issues all the time when I was a Ford tech.

What about calipers that don't use slide on, but have pucks on both sides?

I agree with tbone, that can definitely cause a problem. Which is why I am a firm believer in a two-step torque method for lug nuts in order to minimize any chance of rotor damage. That said, I have had zero luck with any rotor that wasn't cryo treated, for the Excursion in my sig.
To the OP, I have a lot of brake info listed in the tech folder over in the Excursion forum. Check it out when you have time, it may help you make a better choice for rotors and pads.

This is why I carry a breaker bar & torque wrench with me every time my car goes someplace where the wheels are removed. I loosen and properly torque every lug nut right there in the parking lot before I leave. There have been a few cases where I have been unable to loosen the lug nuts, and had to have the shop come out with their impact gun and do it.
Put a run out gauge on rotors I find brand new ones more than .006 off of true. If they start off wrapped it will just get worse. No more than .003 off

No it developed before I put the new tires on but it has gotten worse since the new rubber. Kirkland ford (Seattle) did the front brakes (new rotors ,pads,& hubs) after it was traded in and before I bought the truck.
Sorry for the late replies, it's been hectic on the farm this week. Thanks for the info on wheel torque, what is the torque spec for the lug nuts?
looked up Cryo rotors and found a few manufacturers, who do you all recommend?
Thanks

Sadly I don't have a run out gauge but I totally understand what your saying.

When I do brake jobs I even go a step further and take my dremel and polish all the slide pins. I just did that on my Harley 👍. Sadly the dealership did the brake job before I bought the truck so I don't know to what extent they went when replacing everything?
