when i push the clutch in, it makes a horrible squeaking noise not too loud. im almost positive it is the "arm" that goes to the clutch but not the "arm" inside the cab but the one inside the engine compartment. how do i get rid of this squeak and what is the name of that "arm" i know it has a name... lol
Does it do it when it's running only or does it matter?
Last time I had a throwout bearing go bad (several years ago), it made a light knocking noise when the clutch was depressed, only when it was running.
If it just squeaks as the pedal is moved I would say it's the return springs on the diaphram or maybe the pivot ball.
Not sure if you have a hydraulic clutch or manual clutch. If it's the hydraulic type, it may even be the master cylinder. Have someone work the clutch while you listen for the squeak.
Ohh, wait.
When mine went out it had that light knock/tap without the clutch in. It didn't matter if I was moving in gear or sitting still out of gear. The tapping stopped as soon as I put the clutch in. But I don't remember any squealing though.
Like I said it was a long time ago. :-)
I had a similar problem with my '93. I squawked horribly when depressing and releasing the clutch. I blead the system and when I checked the receptical I found it to be full of a white substance similar to lithium grease. On checking around I found that there is grease on the outside of the seal behind the throwout bearing and that vacuum bleeding may have sucked some of this grease into the slave cylinder. Anyway, it still squawked after bleeding it twice. I ended up replacing the slave and throwout bearing as the clutch pedal was engaging one inch from the floor boards and shifting was becoming harder and sometimes I couldn't get the trans out of gear without shutting the engine off! I know this is not what you want to hear but I think the only way to rid yourself of the noise is to replace the slve cylinder and T.O. bearing. May as well have a good hard look at the clutch too while it is apart, it's much cheaper to replace it while it is apart.
Some times no news is good news. I tried all of that stuff. I finally got my wife to activate the clutch while I was under the truck(not running) with a long screwdriver acting as a stethascope listening to various parts of the trans and bellhousing. Final diagnosis was the slave cylinder was making the noise but changing it out was the final solution. I had it done when a major engine oil leak started, rear main seal and oilpan gasket were leaking so it had to come apart for the repair. It cost over a grand canadian! On another note, I put in a K&N air filter(not FIPK) and have gained an extra 50 miles to a tank and the filter was given to me free!! Some times you get lucky!
A friend gave me a K&N air filter for my truck. It fits in the stock air filter housing and has made a noticable improvement in performance and milage. At last check I am getting 21.6 mpg (canadian) and am now getting another 50 miles more out of a tank of fuel. The only other modification is not really a mod at all but my muffler fell off and I have not bothered to replace it since it is only marginaly louder than before, I just put a turn out and a piece of pipe out ahead of the rear wheel. This happened 3 months ago with no chnge in performance but when put the K&N in there was a immediate improvement. Nice to see a product that actually does what it claims to do. I don't know if the FIPK system would make an even bigger difference or would be worth the premium for the system but I must admit that it does look cool. I was so impressed with the filter that I bought one for my wifes Mazda MPV van the day we bought the van so I don't know if it made an improvement to it but I suspect it probably would have.

Oh, Linkage! Well as far as that goes the linkage is simple , 2 plastic bushings and a plastic snap coupler between the clutch pedal linkage and the master cylinder pushrod. This little gubbins can fail causing the clutch pedal to go to the floor and not return and no clutch action what so ever. My son in law just had this happen, a 12 dollar piece that should only be worth 25 cents! As for WD40 the WD stands for water displacement and this product has little if any lubrication in it. Try 3 in one oil or LLoyds Moovit if you need lubrication. I used a spray Lithium grease for motorcycle chains on mine as it goes on wet and then the carrier evaporates leaving a greasey film on the part. All the lube in the world didn't help me though, my problem was in the slave cylinder and replacing it fixed the noise problem.
