Excursion Power Locks Will Not Move

So, the power locks on my 2000 Excursion (with 205000 miles) always have electric/signal to them, and occasionally will make the ****(s) go down or up (ie. lock the doors), but usually not. It seems like they are just too weak, or tired — that is, the **** will go down/up a tiny bit. I don't even know what to ask...

Anyone else with this problem?

Is there a fix that does not include replacing all the power lock mechanisms?

Is there a way to... "oil" the mechanism?

Other?

Thanks!

PS. Yes, the ***** work manually, with relative ease.

Could be dirty contacts in the door lock relays or a bad connection causing a voltage drop somewhere else in the circuit. I would think if the problem was with the actuators in the doors it would've started with one door then added other doors as time went on. The relays are in the relay box next to the underhood fuse box.

Thanks for replying!

I've only had the truck a few months; so, unfortunately, I do not know the history — the timing of their failures. BUT, the driver's door lock ALWAYS works. (And, again, the others will... every once in a while.)

Do you have any suggestion about troubleshooting?

Kindly,
Lee

Keep in mind that the power locks go through the GEM module under the dash (just above the E. brake pedal). If they are moving at all, I would suggest it is time to replace them, or go to the tech folder (top of the Excursion forum) and read how many others have addressed this problem in the past.

Thanks Nicmike.

Being new, I cannot figure out how to search, or even find, these tech folders (though I read of them often). The closest thing I get to finding a "tech folder" is the "How To" link; but, even then I cannot find anything close to what I am looking for.

Can you do me a favor: Please find one thread, any thread, about power locks for an Ex; then paste the link into your reply; and then I will follow the folders from there.

Thanks again!
Lee

Never mind, Mike. I found them... by searching Google. Lol. (Wish I had thought of this sooner.)

Argh. I wasn't looking anywhere around there; rather, I was looking at the top of the web page — "Forums," "Gallery," "Tools," "Marketplace," etc.

Thanks muchly!

Going to have to do this to my X as well.

By far, this is the most information I have seen on Excursions throughout my ownership of the vehicle.

Wish I would have found it sooner.

I found it before I bought my Ex. (In fact, it guided me in which Ex I bought.) But, I still don't use it enough. :-)

So, this morning I visually checked the Maxi fuse and its contacts in the power distribution box under the hood (#102), and it seemed fine to me (as much as I could visually see). And I hit it with some contact cleaner. When I tried the locks, no change (sometimes they work but rarely; all other times they have some power but act as though they are tired, without enough power). Any suggestion on further examining the Maxi fuse?

Note that I wrote "Maxi fuse," which is the terminology used in my owner's manual. You wrote "relay." You also said "next to the underhood fuse box," and I was looking in the underhood fuse box. But, again, I was going by my owner's manual — I even searched the pdf for "lock." I want to be sure I am not missing something? Is there a relay I am missing?

I agree that it does not seem to be the actuators. After I looked for the "relay," following the instructions in the tech folder about fixing actuators, I took apart one actuator, and it looked pristine. I hit it with some contact cleaner, too, just for fun. When I put it back together, no change. I am assuming such is the case with the rest of them. This is to say, I don't think the problem is with the actuators.

If in fact this is the case, I wouldn't know where to begin troubleshooting; but I guess I would begin at the door switches and trace wires. In any case, when I went looking for my GEM (which Nicmike mentioned, and which I did not find because I didn't understand that it is on the back of my fuse panel [right???], AND I got sidetracked by what I did find), I found this "box" (pictured) to the side of the e-brake, unsecured. (I partially slid off the housing.) Any idea what this box is? Do you think it could be related to my lock issue? I tried to ensure that it was firmly seated.... No change in the locks.

One last tidbit of information: I recently tried to have the computer programmed for a spare key (at two dealers), and it was rejected (many times). One tech said he thinks there may be a wiring issue in the dash. Does this influence your trouble shooting?

Again, thanks.
