The scissor jack that comes with the truck seems puny for such a beast. What are you guys using? I am thinking of buying a bottle jack to keep with the truck but wanted to know what other people are using? If a bottle jack what ton? and where are you storing? I have a crew cab and the rear seats are folded most of the time for dog boxes in the back that doesn't leave many options for storage on these things.
I have a 10 or 12 ton hydraulic bottle jack. I removed the factory jack and mount behind pass rear seat and it sits there. I left it in the box it came in and used rags to stop rattling over bumps.
I carry a 12 ton bottle jack and a good cross type lug wrench in the toolbox. The only thing I use the factory tools for is to get the spare tire down.
Mine is a 350 ccsb diesel and came with a scissor jack
This seems odd to me. Our F350 CCSB 6.2 is equipped with a screw-type bottle jack that's stored under the rear seatback (passenger side) and behind the inverter. Frankly, it's a bit of a pain to remove and replace. The mount appears to be specifically designed for this particular jack. The jack doesn't appear to carry a max load spec.
Here's a pic of our truck's OEM jack:
The OM (v3) only makes graphic references to this style jack for the SRW trucks (i.e., pages 406 and 407). The duallies get hydraulic jacks.
Are you gearing this towards using on the road if you have a flat, or at home for general maintenance? The best thing I ever did was buy 4-ton rapidpump floor jack from Harbor Freight. Lots of lift and gets things in the air quick.
I would NOT use the small jack as general maintainance. It does the job but is sketchy and not very stable. Used it more times then I liked in the 2008 and gravel roads and the likes.
I keep a small chuck of 2/4 for the jack so does not fall over in gravel or mud.
If a larger bottle jack fits and people post weights I think I will upgrade mine due to past experiences. When it's -20 I want something stable tough and don't have to fidget with.
