Hello, I've been told many times that the blue spring upgrade is great for 6.0 so I'm finally getting around to doing it but I have a few questions about it. What exactly is it? Is it something I can install myself? Which one should I buy, I've seen one for $170 but then I've seen one for $20. Is there much of a difference? For you guys that have could you link me to the one you bought? Anyway thank you in advance.
Pretty easy mod if you can turn a wrench you can do it yourself, increases your fuel pressure to keep the injectors happier. It's a no brainer, really.
Get the Ford kit, it's proven and not expensive
Part# is 3C3Z-9T517-AG
Here is a vid from DTR. I did one a few days ago, took around half hour. Only difference was I was changing the fuel filters so I took the upper filter out, and then used a turkey baster to suck the fuel out so it doesn't run all over creation when you take things loose.
The blue spring upgrade will increase your running fuel pressure to over 60 PSI and I am told this is a good thing. I was running around 50+PSI and I was having a leak on the fuel line input so I elected to upgrade. Try Riff Raff Diesel for a fair deal. My cost delivered in 2014 was $42.38. Riff Raff are good folks and they will provide the correct parts. Google for how to install-it is quick and easy.
It sounds like you may be new to the 6.0 world so I would recommend you purchase a some sort of monitoring device. I use a Scanguage II which can be purchased at Autozone and on the web. I also have installed a Glowshift Fuel Pressure Gauge which cost about $100 back in 2013. With these you will be able to identify many problems before they become critical.
One difference in the way I did mine is I took off the hard-line hold down on the driver's head. That allowed me to just swing the cover out and do the parts swap w/o breaking loose the fuel line connection.
Not sure today, but 4 years ago I'm pretty sure it was Ford/Motorcraft. Looks like a Ford PN, but even on RiffRaff's site they say manufacturer is Navistar...
I just did mine today. The International bag on the right was inside the Ford bag on the left. The International sticker was blacked out. If you flip it over you can make out the International logo still.
