So I bought this rig from my sister. It has been sitting for awhile prolly 5 years was running when parked. I'm trying to decide to revamp it or just sell it. I bought it to help her out she has gotten cancer and just don't need it.
It's a 68 f-100 ranger long bed. I like everyone would like a short but is what it is. It has a 6cylinder in it and 3 speed on the tree. Has factory ac even. Everything works body is straigh all trim is there. 2 spots have dents on trim one above windshield and other fender if I remember correctly. Even has the hub caps. Not rust all the way through. It's been parked on gravel for last 5 years. I have did a little research and thought be cool to rebuild with my son. But putting the crown Vic front end may be more then I can do. I can do the mock up but I would never trust my welding for that important part. Everything else I'll be fine at.
My ? Is what would I expect to pay to have someone do it? I would prolly put in a 5.0 motor and tranny hoping they get the transmission shifting figured out before I got it done. Or just sell it and do something that is more bolt on for my son and I to do.
.....you're already ahead of the curve since you do have the truck in your possession. You could leave it as a long bed or, there are plenty of long beds that have been cut down to a short bed.
These trucks are virtually bolt on poster children. Nothing wrong with doing a low budget build especially if it is a project to do with a child/adolescent. You can make it a good tool for not only mechanical skills, but systematic problem solving and teaching them that everything is a learning process to get to the ultimate goal. Also it should, mainly be fun.
Yes that why I want to do it. And he's a Ford guy already. I want power steering and good brakes for him. I haven't seen upgrades for them yet. I have been looking but I just got the truck couple days ago still looking into it all.
Currently, my truck has a 240 inline six and a C4 automatic. My truck didn't have power steering, power brakes or discs on the front when I got it in April, 2011.
I've since added front discs/suspension from a '77 F100, a dual diaphragm brake booster/mounting brackets from a '75 F350, a (Saginaw) power steering gearbox from a '78 F150 and a power steering pump/pulleys/brackets from an '82 F150 that had a 300 in it.
You could do something similar to the truck you have to make it safer and more enjoyable to drive.

There are multiple gents here that have done most of the things you can do with a bump. That said, do searches on this site. If you can't find what your looking for just ask. Somebody hear will have the answer or point you in the right direction to get the answer.

That looks sweet. How hard is it to find all those parts? I do know some junkyard guys in Michigan I'm guessing all that stuff is gone. Gonna have to find guys online swilling?
Finding the conversion parts just depends on what's available in your local wrecking yards or what private individuals might have. Unfortunately for the last number of years, wrecking yards have been on a rampage to crush Dentside and earlier model trucks, thus, the loss of lots of valuable parts one could have used on their Bumpside/Dentside trucks.
I have the main suspension components to do a front disc brake/suspension conversion from a '75 F100, spare F350 dual diaphragm booster/brackets/dust boot for the power brakes and several power steering pumps/brackets/pulleys for a 240/300 inline six from Bullnose era 300s. --these are all parts just like I installed on my '69 F100 Ranger shown in my previous photos.
If you can't find anything locally, you can P.M. me for more information/photos of what spare parts I have.
Your truck is what patina lover's dream of. I would at least post it up on craigslist locally and as far as out here in SoCal to get some feedback on interest. If you knew what someone was willing to pay for it, maybe you could shop for a shortbed with PS and PB.

Are you sure it has factory A/C?
Three different types of A/C were available, their bezels are 'hang-on' units, bolt to the bottom of the dash.
Factory installed integral A/C is combined with the heater, the A/C controls are located in the same panel as the heater controls.
Two types of dealer installed A/C, deluxe and economy. Their two A/C switches are located in their bezels.
The deluxe bezel is located under the entire underside of the dash, the economy A/C bezel is located under the center of the dash.
