If your TBC is showing a fault, you do not have trailer brakes. If you reset it and it remains reset you are good to go, but without fixing why it showed a fault it likely means you will see that message again soon.

Thanks Steve

I have a disconnected factory brake control (I bought the truck used), and a custom installed brake control that is hooked up. I removed the fuse for the factory unit. I still have to reset the panel each time I start up my truck, but my brakes and brake lights work. I will take a test drive before I head out.

If the TBC is disconnected and the aftermarket controller works, the fault information is irrelevant as long as you know your trailer brakes are working. I assumed you are pulling a trailer given your post asked about the TBC.
