I bought a power chip and in connection the battery cables one of the positive clamps broke. I bought a replacement cable from auto parts and in connecting the batteries the last positive lead slipped out of my hand and shorted to the negative lead. Quick spark. connected it to the positive post and got in the truck. NO POWER at all. Is there by chance a fuse to protect from this or did I just fry the PCM?
If you have no power to anything at all you might want to look at the fuseable link(s) in the main power lead from the battery(s) to the main fuse panel. It will be "inside" of the main lead (wire) to the fuse panel itself.
Anyone else have BS luck. Well, I bought one of those 6 position power chips. I followed the instructions, Remover both battery cables and take the key out of the ingnition. Clean the contacts very carefully. (BS Luck experience) Reassemble chip no change. Afraid I may have damaged the PCM reassemble back stock and test start, Every still works. Make call, 'clean contacts to copper'. Ok remove battery cables again, clean contacts, reassemble no crank. Remove cables again. I noticed one of the positive clamps seemed to be cracking. Bad, bought a replacement cable from Orielly and had to cut the starter wire from the stock cable. In reinstalling and trying to make the cables look neater I managed to swoop the power/fuselinks to the wrong side of the relay. No memory old dude. OK with help from Hydro and a book I see my mistake. Reconnect the batteries NOW Shortly after turning to start EVERY THING goes dim. In connection one of the batteries the pos post seems wobbly. Take to be tested, BAD Battery. Can't just put in the chip have to spend $250 on normal maintenance first. BS luck By the way ALL IS GOOD (I think) Test drive when it cools and the traffic clears some.
