Try to remember September all topics

Try to remember the kind of September when life was slow and oh, so mellow,
Try to remember the kind of September when grass was green and grain was yellow.
Try to remember the kind of September when you were a tender and callow fellow.

Try to stay cool today.

So...
I go to Autozone and point to 2 items on their "Loaner Tool" mat and tell the guy that I want the vacuum pump and manifold gauges. He immediately grabs the keyboard and asks,"Whats the make and year of your car?" Sigh

I tell him that it doesn't matter, that I need these 2 items, as I point to the mat. "Yeah, but for what car?", not even looking at me or where I am tapping on the mat.

Finally get the manager over and they go get the items.

I notice the box was laying sideways on the shelf. They bring it up and The box is soaked with oil. I remove the pump from the box and show them that it has no oil in it. They say that I have to buy the oil. I tell them that If I rent the tool full, I will return the oil full and that Im not paying for the oil that they dumped oil by laying iton its side.

Anyway, I left without it.

I was way past my tolerance point

I don't go to AutoZoo since they fired that guy in Virginia for foiling an armed robbery by bringing his own "piece" into the store from his car.

Bad store policy, and I wouldn't feel safe in one of their stores knowing it was a "gun-free zone".

Nope. They haven't gotten any more of my money since 2012.

I vote with my wallet.

However, extreme employee stupidity is also another good reason to not go there.

At that point you can have fun. For a 1922 Dodge sphincter .

Please give your knowledge on this please.

https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sf...291056866.html

Can I reregister this truck in my name?

Edit:
I think I may have answered my own question. And the answer is no?

What makes you think that you couldn't? Truck is in Woodland Thrills, so unless the owner bought it out of state and never registered it, it would have a CA title.

However you do not want a salvage title, because once issued, you are stuck with it. Some people haven't a clue, but most are aware that it can be very hard to sell a vehicle w/a salvage title.

'Course you have to pass the smog test first, and with 266,000+ miles on the clock, that may be difficult.

I was thinking that it coudn't be registered because it was from a Dearborn, Mich plant.

I looked at the ad again, and don't see where it says Salvaged.

I would be trading my Dodge Neon for it, so even if it were salvaged, it would be better.

I also checked the smogged history and it is clean and consistant so I am assuming it wont pass now because of the misfire

It has CA plates. If it has a smog in the last 90 days, you are good. Otherwise, you must smog before registration. You can go in and do the transfer, pay the fees and get a temporary sticker while you get it repaired and smogged.

Being a '98 Ranger it is probably an OHV motor. Might be a head gasket, might be a head, might be a hole in the piston.

IF by some strange chance it is an SOHC, do not, repeat, do not buy it. The cost of repair is a lot more than $1900. I would think this thing is more in the $500 range because as it sits, you can't really do much with it. No AC, and recent motor that has already taken a dump. If the trans was done by the same shop, you will have double trouble.

Good points.

When I usually read "rebuilt engine" I assume a tune up until I see it. The Vin comes back as an ohv. I googled, and read several posts in the Ranger forum about the misfire #3 and it was coming back with minor repair stuff. Also, putting the wrong plugs in the Ranger can cause them to wear faster, crack, etc.

So after the guy agreeing in text to trade, he says that he wants to sell it instead, lol. Ok, no problem, I mighta dodged a bullet.

Where a vehicle is assembled has nothing to do with registration.

Seller posted the VIN, the 11th digit is the code for the assembly plant.

P = Twin Cities MN

Right on.
From the DMV website, I understand that a 49 state vehicle can be registered in CA by a nonresident when moving here, but that if they sell it to a resident that the resident will not be able to reregister it unless it is California Certified.

It is good to have you here Mr.ND.

If you bring your 49 state car here, you can register it, subject so some limitations on age and mileage. It has to meet OEM 49 state specs.

You can sell or trade it later, and it simply needs to pass smog again based on the OEM 49 state specs.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITTLE BIRD

'On September 2, 1959, at a news conference broadcast to viewers in 21 cities on closed-circuit television, Henry Ford II introduces his company’s newest car–the 90-horsepower, 30 miles-per-gallon Falcon. The Falcon, dubbed “the small car with the big car feel,” was an overnight success. It went on sale that October 8 and by October 9, dealers had snapped up every one of the 97,000 cars in the first production run.'

Am I wrong to question 30 country mpg?

I thought "country miles" was longer....

Yea, measure it on level ground at a country road 45mph and I bet it pulls 30.

Just a few years later with a couple tweaks and some fancy fenders and they had another big seller.

Ford ran those in European rally competition, but afaik never really talked that up in US advertising.

All they really need is a 15x7 wheel and a decent tire...........
