A Long shot
New to me 99 F250 V10 Triton. Crew cab lariat, 167k on the clock and interior is in near perfect condition, and body with a few cosmetic dents and such.. But moving on, I am looking at getting a bit more up and go with the old girl.
I have been looking through Ebay, U.S salvage yard searches and the like, but have been thinking about a whipple or kenne supercharger for her, but can't seem to find one. Is it going to be a needle in the haystack find, or just a lot of luck and right location?
Everything is just cosmetic, minus the stuck thermostat which I am fixing right now as the water drains out.
Just looking a good roots charger, and not really looking at a centrifugal turbo looking deal that are a dime a dozen on the ebay market.
It's 2wd, so I'm not looking for a mud-bog horse.
If you want a more easily attained performance boost find a set of late '03 through '04 (actually all the way up to the end of the Econolines the V-10s were still 2 valves) heads and matching intake manifold. In '00 they went to the PI heads which stands for Performance Improved, they increased the output on the 6.8. Then in late '03 the number of spark plug threads was increased to reduce the possibility of plug blowout. The '99 pistons combined with the PI heads will net a higher compression ratio than stock, so between that and the improved head design you would have a good setup.
What gear ratio does the truck currently have? Most are 3.73, which is barely adequate for these motors. Honestly in my opinion deeper gears are the best performance upgrade for the V-10. And that is based on my experience as I have run mine with the stock 3.73s and stock sized tires then with 4.88s with 32" tires for an effective 4.80 ratio. After that I went with 35"s and the same 4.88s for an effective 4.39 ratio. The 4.80 ratio made my heavy Excursion feel like a Hotrod around around town and it towed the 9,500lb toyhauler like a locomotive! And even the current 4.39 ratio is far better performing than the stock gears, both unloaded and with the 11K TT in tow. With your RWD truck only the rear axle would need to be changed out vs both on a 4X4. Search around in the parts yards for a factory optioned 4.30 Sterling, a rear axle swap is a cheap and fairly quick and easy job that will change the trucks personality for the better.
the challenge would be the spray trigger... some kits use a signal of the MAP...others need boost PSI to work. no boost on a non turbo/super charged vehicle. one way around that is to tap the exhaust system the same way the EBP or EGR does, run that line thru a CPU cooler, and you now have a boost source. the closer the tap is to the engine...the higher the pressure...the further away...it lowers. goal is to get 0-5 PSI at idle and 35PSI+ at the peak power curve.
mush easier to do than supercharger or turbo and the water in the methonal mix will keep your pistons from melting.
