1995 ford f350.the squirrel cage on my heater fan motoe split last week taking out the shroud.to my surprise there is basically no replacements and since basically all the wrecking yards are shut down around here for stealing cars and crushing i decided to do some plastic welding.got the shroud fixed and hooked up the new motor to it only working on high.old motor also....was working on all speeds before the incident.all fuses and relays seem to be fine.any thoughts of what this could be gentlemen?
I had to replace the fan resistor that controls all the speeds, they can be picked up at most auto parts stores. I believe it is a white/cream colored connector with maybe 8-10 pins in it. My fan would only work on one setting also and I replaced this and it has worked on all speeds since.
Is the new motor and squirrel cage spinning freely? The original symptom was certainly the resistor pack, sounds like it. It has a thermal fuse in it and lower speeds won't work. You cant replace the fuse, just get a new resistor package. Also fuse # 1 under dash protects this so take a look at that fuse.
You didnt leave a rag in there did ya? Also check on the passenger side under dash the recirculating vent is in there and sometimes plastic bags get sucked in worth a check.
I think I had this problem a long time ago. Pull the motor and check to see if it is turning the right way. On mine I reversed the wiring and all was well. Going by memory lol the motor can have reverse polarity. Worth a quick check.
