Zinc plating

Has anyone ever dabbled in zinc plating or any other type of plating? It looks pretty easy in those Youtube videos. I'd like to at least plate my tailgate hardware because paint isn't a long-term solution.

I need to do something with my hood hinges, too.

I've been wondering that myself. I recently read an article in a biker magazine on parkerizing which looks like a viable option as well.
