First long tow.

So, about 1500 miles into my first tow with 2017 srw 6.7.

The truck has incredible power and is far superior to my 2011 Duramax. MPG is at about 10.5 and has been increasing a bit. Towing about 14,500 lb fifth wheel westbound so some headwinds and hoping to see it increase a little.

As others have said, the engine brake is fantastic.

I have added Timbren springs, and the ride is very solid, stable and no sag.

Dear Ford...what were you thinking with the tailgate height. As a result of sidewall and tailgate height, I was forced to raise my Curt Q25 to the highest setting and will be slightly nose high towing a Heartland Bighorn.

And regarding the new Q-25, I very much like this hitch. It replaced an older B&W and is so easy to install. I do find unhooking slightly fussy but will just have to figure out the sweet spot.

Lots of people have complained about the height of the bed rails and tailgate, but when they went with the F150 cab, it left them no choice.

Thanks for the report! Have a safe trip and enjoy.

These '17's are pretty amazing towing these large trailers. I've got the Curt Q20 and noticed the same think when unhooking. It won't release until you move the truck just a little to get the jaws to release. Sometimes just putting the truck in neutral will take pressure off the jaws and then they will release. Liking the Curt better then the Reese Elite I have for a spare. Also had to go to the highest setting to have ample bed clearance at the tailgate peak when I'm going down my sloped driveway. I'm getting 9.5 to 10 mpg @62 to 65 mph on the Interstate so not too bad. Glad you're enjoying your new truck!!

Good report. I would not expect your mpgs to increase but rather decrease as you get to the rockies. If you are past that heading to CA then there is some down hill but a lot of uphill as you head towards Arizona.
