I have a 93 f-150 5.0 4x2 AOD. I have read how to check my base timing and it seems straight forward enough. The timing is supposed to be 10 degress BTDC, within +/- 2 degrees. What would be gained by advancing the base timing those 2 degrees? How much can I advance the timing before I have to run different gas? At what point am I simply increasing heat and not efficiency? Thanks,
I also have a '93 F-150 with a 302. I advanced my timing to 4 degrees. Although it has some pinging, the off-the-line performance and mileage improved some.
I think you can advance the timing on our motors up to and including 6 degrees.
You have to unplug the spout connector, which is on the driver's fendor, next to the diagnosis ports. It has a little plug in it. The computer raises timing to about 17 degrees.
