I have been having cooling problems since my water pump began weeping over a month ago. I replaced the water pump, thermostat, upper and lower radiator hoses, and fan clutch. Everything is operating properly until I am sitting at idle in temps over 95, and esp when I turn on the AC. It then gets hotter than I have ever noticed it, past the "M" on the way to "L". Running down the road, the temp is normal. Should I just bite the bullet and upgrade to a 4-row radiator? The current radiator seems to have acceptable flow. I use the vehicle to tow a Jeep regularly, and haven't since the cooling problems started. Thanks for any advice.
Sounds like you left the spring out of the new lower radiator hose. The hose is the suction line to the radiator, and will collapse and cut off cooling to the engine if it doesn't have the spring in it to keep it open.
Or, of course, the new fan clutch could be bad. Check to see if the fan is moving plenty of air at idle.
A leaky cap, preventing the system from pressurizing could cause trouble too.
