starting and stalling (again)

I started having this problem at about 28K miles. Engine would start then stall and not start again. Got the IAC replaced under warranty and that took care of it. Now at 47K it's doing almost the same thing again. It will start then roughly idle up and down between 500 and 1500 RPM. It acts like it's going to stall before it gets going and idles normal, a couple pumps on the gas helps. This only happens after sitting overnight. In the afternoon it starts will only a minimum of rough idle. I replaced the IAC (again!) which did nothing. Also put in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner which did nothing either. I'm thinking MAF, fuel filter, plugs now. Any thoughts? Taking it to a shop on Wednesday (9/10), would like to do things myself and save some money if possible beforehand. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for replying. Is the idle control sensor the same as the Idle Air Control valve? I have replaced the IAC already.

I never received a recall for an intake gasket. Was that for your 2000 explorer?

I took it to a shop to get it checked and turns out it was, in fact, the MAF sensor as I suspected. I didn't want to do it myself because I was too lazy to go buy the T-20 screwdriver to take the thing out. They did a diagnostic and found nothing and then took out the MAF and cleaned it. It now starts up no problem. They charged me $96 all told to do it. It's a little steep but I got the diagnostic out of it to tell me there was nothing else wrong. I also told them to check a differential leak I found and they said my pinion seal and front differential seal were bad. Going to get this done also...cost: $300. I love FORDS!!! (said sarcastically).

If you listened to me you could have saved $96 bucks! You should sell the thing and get one of the new ones, havent heard anything bad and my mom has one and its really nice and roomy.

Very true I could have done it myself but I also wanted a diagnostic to make sure there was nothing else wrong. As for buying a new one....NEVER!! I will never buy another explorer, or Ford, again. I'm getting rid of this one when it's paid off in 18 months and buying a Toyota 4-runner. I will pay for it but at least I won't have things going wrong with it every other day.
