Anyone know what grade the torx bolts are that hold the oil rail in place?
The PO used the wrong sized bit and I have a lot of damaged points on a
set along with the one that was snapped off by what looks to be over torqued.
I'll let you know if I find out. One would think that if I can find the grade then
I should be able to find torx cap screws to use in place of the messed up ones.
Now for some
BTW it looks like we can use the Unicode 6.0 Emoji 1.0 here on FTE.
Maybe.
I believe you're right....I just went through this a while back and was told that 10.9 is equivalent to SEA grade 8 My Deere dealer gave me that answer, for what ever that's worth.
Yall are indeed correct about grade 8 SAE vs. 10.9 metric, but don't they screw into aluminum?. I think it's strange that they went with a 10.9 there, but not surprised.
The higher grades, 8 / 10.9, are not just used because of need for higher proof or yield strength, but they are tougher as well. So they will be less prone to torx or hex deformation if you want some protection from tearup. The belief they are more "brittle" is not true. I try to buy 8 / 10.9 when I buy in quantity, bolts, nuts and washers. Mostly I get fasteners from McMaster since I don't have a Fastenal account. HD and the like in general carry the worst stock out there unless you hit their boxes. When we did field work on the East Coast often we would hit up Pep Boys if we needed something quick as they carried a lot of 8 stock, not sure they still do.
