But if the case is that the inverter and converter are a combined unit it won't be that simple, right?

I'm not an electrical engineer and I'm 100% sure Steve knows more than most of us and would go off his knowledge. All your doing is putting a kill switch between the batteries and the inverter.
I use the Magnum image because that's what I have handy for a reference but my system is a little more involved than the OPs. So its wired different.

But before adding everything I had there was the converter/ charger and there was a simple kill switch that killed the power from batteries.

The inverter and converter are separate units

That is pretty much what i was thinking for the kill switch.

WirthCo 20148 Battery Doctor Knife Switch for Top Post Battery with Stud

Disconnect Switch Disconnect Switch

This is what I was looking at for a switch mostly because it would.be easy to install. No cutting cables or making new ones. What do you think?

Most of the switches I looked at are rated for 125 amp continuous and they vary for the max amps.

That will work, but I like these better, https://www.google.com/search?q=blue...hrome&ie=UTF-8. They are an industry standard.

the Knife Switch type are easy.. but should be replace every 2 to 3 years.. depending on the weather in your area..

contacts get dirty or oxidized.. and cause problems. under high amp loads.

my opinion. yes, I have used them in the past. to switch in and out a second battery.

Steve
I saw those but would be a lot harder to install given the size of cable on those batteries. It is the largest cable I have ever seen for batteries.

I think I will try the knife switch first as long as it is more of a preference thing rather than performance. I will get a sheet of packing rubber to keep things from falling on it even though there is nothing in the battery compartment that could.

I store the camper Inside and we do not live in a salty region so I think it would be ok. It would be easy to inspect when I open the battery compartment.

When I leave our camper, I simply disconnect 1 end of each wire that connects the batteries together - effectively disconnecting them from everything.
The other terminal on each battery has multiple cables connected (and I leave that alone) - 9 years and still easy to disconnect.
I have wing-nuts on the battery terminals and this takes all of 2 minutes (the hardest part is removing the silly plastic covers on the batteries).

I have a set of battery disconnects - just never got around to putting them on
