64' F250 4WD - The Green Machine
#17
Good eye - they changed to the newer style sweep speedometer and bezel. 1965/66 2WD Custom Cab/Ranger and 1966 F100 4WD Custom Cab/Ranger.
Black 4-spoke steering wheel would be correct for a Standard Cab. Custom Cabs used a white steering wheel.
The seats look like high back in the first pics and then a bench seat in the later pics. The back portion of the bench seat is newer upholstery than 1964. Either 1965 or 1966.
Is the transfer case shift level in place? Hard to tell in the pics. I see the boot, but the lever is either missing or very short.
Should be a Dana 24 transfer case and Dana 60 rear and Dana 44 closed knuckle front driving axle.
It will be neat for you to see it in person once it gets there.

From everything that i was reading.....I had a funny feeling that the instrument cluster wasnt original to this truck. Sheesh - She is more of a frankenstein than i was hoping. While im a purist in some ways....I will certainly be making this truck my own, and tastefully modifying with factory optioned items that i prefer over others. Not sure the sweep style gauges make the cut......I'll now be looking for all of the custom cab frills, dash panel and gauges included. I noticed that about the seat also, kind of wacky im not sure what the story is with the two different seat backs. The floor 4x4 shifter is in place, i noticed that also and pointed it out. the PO told me that was just a shift boot laying there on the floor that he hadnt gotten around to installing. Cant wait to be double clutching, swinging a 4 speed shifter 2 feet in every direction every day of my life!! Should have it in less than 2 weeks. These shipping quotes are REALLY getting me down.

I here ya on the shipping quotes. I did the math before I went and picked my current project up. It would have been more economical in the long run to pay someone versus me going and getting it. The only reason I jumped on it was the price and the fact he was selling so cheap it wouldn't have lasted while I waited on a shipping company. I spent almost a grand in fuel, from Michigan to Washington, and back. The shipping quotes were only a hundred or two cheaper.
I literally picked the furthest point possible ( western Oregon ) from where i live. ( Long Island NY).
Good news is - The truck will be picked up in the next few days, and delivered to me by mid next week. Cant wait.

Yeah, for me I didnt have a choice. I just locked in a shipping company for just shy of 1700. That hurt quite a bit....... Dont get my wrong. my initial instict was ." Heck!! Im going to buy a 1 way 200 dollar flight, and drive that thing cross country back " . however friends talked sense into my head. Its a 1964 with a 4 speed.....in a truck i know little about. Granted its a simple machine, but its an old truck to take on just under 4 THOUSAND miles at once. cruising at 50 probably turning 3k RPMS is alot on an old girl.

Yea, that's a long journey. I used to live/work in NYC. I remember the 12 hour drive from my office in Brooklyn just to Michigan when I drove my classic car back here. Unique experience and was enjoyable, but I also had an OD trans in my car. I couldn't imagine the short geared 4 speed in the "green machine" having fun for the twice that distance.
With this said, let me ask you folks. Am i going to be able to even somewhat comfortably keep up with highway traffic at 55 in this truck? ( considering good tires, safe brakes, etc ) ?? Or will this poor old 352 be screaming in pain due to gearing.

It would surely be bad news bears!!!

The brakes though, that's another story. No power assist boost, nor power steering, makes for a true daily driver experience. Myself, I loved it. A true "driver" as it relates to road feel and visceral input. Just a dude and his truck...

My 1963 f100, with a 292, 4 speed, and 35" tires were fine on the road at 55. If your 352 is in decent running condition, my opinion is it would be fine.

Can someone help me find a dual bowl master that will work?

Thanks!

The optional amp and oil pressure gauges fit into the bezel to the left and right of the round speedo.
Custom Cabs have a chromed steel cluster bezel, Standard Cabs have a painted steel cluster bezel.
