New truck?

What's up folks, I'm looking to get a new truck at the end of the year, and I'm strongly considering a Super Duty.
I have gone through every page and the FAQ as well. These are somewhat more specific questions that I did not see posed.

I plan on getting a standard cab with an automatic and manual T-case. I do no towing, and only carry around my own limited posessions and possible some sand, gravel, etc... for my mom's yard. I will also be driving it about a half an hour to school 2 days a week.
Is the 5.4 not available with 4.30 gears? I tried to price this combo on Ford's site without any luck. I would think that lower gears would come with the smaller engine to make up for the lower power. Has anyone tried "overgearing", like 4.56 with 33, 4.88 with 35, and so on (with the 5.4)? It's only that I want the standard cab that I am even considering the V-8.

Does anyone know when the new 5.4 is coming out in the SD?

I would like to get 33x12.50R16 Trxus MT on 16x10s. Has anyone ran these tires? What backspacing would I need, and does anyone have a picture of this combo (33s on 10s on a standard cab)?
Does anyone have any experience with the Pro Comp 2" leafs? I'd like to stay from hangers if possible. I have lift shackles on my S-10 Blazer now, and do not like they way the relocate the axle. How much lift would I get with these Pro Comps over camper or snowplow springs?

That's a lot of specific questions, but I would appreciate any info or answers that you folks had to offer.
Thanks.

The 5.4L engine is only available from the factory with 3.73 or 4.10 gears. The 4.30 gears are available only with the V10. Re-gearing is possible, but expensive. You'll need to set aside some serious $$ for all these mods. I'd recommend spending the money up-front to get the V10 and 4.30 gears. Probably save you some money in mods and will definitely help with resale value should you ever want to sell the truck.

I strongly urge you not to get the POS TrXus tires. I had 2 blow-outs and a torn (not cut) sidewall. Finally switched to BFGs and had no more problems. Do a search for TrXus and you should find some pics of the crappy tires.

Thanks for the reply.
I know trucks and 4x4, I just don't know much about Super Duties.

Everything I had read up to this point said good things about the TRxus MT. What size did you have and where they the STS or the MT?
Has anyone run Mickey Thompson MTX?

It seems that there a lot of lifted SDs with the 5.4, could anyone in that category give their opinion?
I don't need a diesel and the V-10 could still be too much for what I need (daily driver and some light off-roading). I think that the new 5.4 could be the answer.

BFG A/Ts have never let me down. Running empty on the road, towing, or in 'light' off-roading they have been great all-around rain/snow/dry tires.

Warmdye, your truck is exactly what I was thinking of.
How do you like the 5.4 with your 33s?

I love it. It has plenty of power and sounds great. If you get the 5.4L, I recommend gutting that cat and slapping a good muffler on there so you can take advantage of the great sound. Initially I had problems getting the 33s to ride smooth. I took it to Les Schwaab tire and got what they call a "road force balance" and they ride good now (not as smooth as road tires though). The truck has stock suspension but the 33s only rub when I hit a big bump at full lock. I take her off road all the time and don't have any problems.

I'd be happy to answer anymore specific questions you may have.

Warmdye, which gears do you have and what is your backspacing?
I've heard 5.4s dualed out before, not bad, not bad...
I have to say, though that THE BEST exhaust that I have ever heard was on a Dodge 2500 V10. It was really low and smooth. I think that a lot of guys here run open headers (most of them have Chevies), and they sound horrible. There is this GMC crew cab dualie that sounds like a dirtbike, and not one of those 1400cc motorcycles.

Anyway, thanks for your help.

My gears are 4.10s and I'm not sure about the backspacing. You can refer to the ARE website for that info. They are the ARE bajas.
